Set on an idyllic unnamed island, undisciplined boys are stranded there after there plane crashes on the island. The major theme of the work is that mankind is inherently evil, and when confronted with a lack of societal norms, will revert to savagery. Correlations are drawn between the boys' behavior and the course of some of Hitler's more heinous acts. A secondary theme is of the destruction of the environment. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
