Boris Yeltsin -- A Combination of Mother Russia and Modern
Russia
[ send me this essay ]
This 10 page report discusses Russia’s first elected
president, Boris Yeltsin. Was he a an old-style Russian oligarch
determined to take his rightful place in the leadership of his
country? Or can he be better-defined as a leader firmly in touch
with the needs and desires of the “real” Russians -- the people
once described as the “proletariat.” He has been alternately
adored and vilified, praised and blamed for the “new” Russia.
But it should not be forgotten he certainly deserves credit for
truly monumental achievements. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Budgetary Challenges and the European Union of the Future
[ send me this essay ]
This
16 page report discusses a scenario in which the current members
of the EU agree that Estonia, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and
Slovenia should be allowed to join the community by 2010.
However, in this fictional scenario, their accession was only
agreed after discussions over the economics of the “community”
were addressed. The European nations which were the most
decidedly “mainstream” in terms of their European identity --
Germany, France, Italy, et al -- found themselves facing
questions regarding how legitimately European one should consider
nations such as Estonia, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and
Slovenia. Benefits, challenges, and potential problems are
addressed. Bibliography lists 13 sources.
