The first part of this following examination of Pollock’s painting examines the scale, materials and content that defined Pollock’s style. Then, the way that Pollock’s art can be interpreted is explored further by exploring the critical perception of Pollock voiced by Clement Greenberg (1909-1994) and Ernst Gombrich (1909-2001). Art During the French Revolution: Examples from the Work of Jacques-Louis David

A 6 page overview of the influence of the French Revolution of the art of the time. Several of Jacques-Louis David’s paintings (including “The Tennis Court Oath”, “The Oath of Horatii”, and “Napoleon at the Pass at St. Bernard” are analyzed in terms of their depiction of historical circumstances. The conclusion is reached that David considered commoners heroes alongside famous generals like Napoleon. His art was not always a true reflection of historical circumstance, however, but rather a reflection of his ideologies and beliefs. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
